In blissful isolation

A big theme of mine is connection: reconnecting to our true inner self, reconnecting to nature, being connected into the flow of Life itself. If we are not deeply connected then we are not really living.

But as with any theme there is always a counter perspective. Last night I was having a wonderful discussion with my friends at Bristol Theosophical Society (TS) about how we often felt isolated and that, actually, this is a good thing!

We were talking about what passes for the norm in society: the consumerism, the negativity of journalists, and so on. We soon agreed that, for the sake of our own inner selves, we are better off being disconnected from this aspect of life. Indeed, one of our lessons may well be to learn to be in blissful isolation from all the stuff that currently passes as human reality.

When asking ‘why are we here?’, this would seem to be an important answer: to learn to be in the flow: which means knowing who and what to connect with …. and when to enjoy a sense of blissful isolation….

  1. I find myself agreeing with much if not all of what you say in reading through a number of your posts this morning. I could go on to say what I wholeheartedly agree with – the terrible state of our world and our species and so forth. But it has got to the stage that for my own sanity I just have to withdraw within, live in the inner silence, and block off humanity. Nature and beauty are all I care for, including the beauty of good behaviour. As you have said repeatedly elsewhere, the second half of one’s life is about contemplation and a retreat from the bestial world we have created.
